I wasn't looking for a trend when I started this, I was born into it. I grew up in a Rastafarian household where locs and natural living weren't "aesthetic" choices; they were our identity. With that identity in the 80s and 90s helped me build a grit and sense of self that was not based on the environments around me. But my personal journey with locs happened in my 40s. There was a call to step into my eldership and a conscious decision to stop reaching for European beauty standards. I realized that my natural state doesn't need to be "managed", it was asking for a space to just be.

I built Entwined from that place of capacity. I started with what I could hold. The salon was a practice to learn how to serve my community with firm boundaries that didn't create disconnection. I've never wanted to just scale for the sake of growth; I've scaled through the intimacy of the culture. Whether it's the studio, the classes, or the magazine, every part of this ecosystem is an answer to a need I saw going unmet.

The Loc Party is where this vision comes to life. We are creating a high-energy space where the artistry of locs takes center stage through the Entwined Collection showcase. This is a one-day event with an intentional investment in our community’s culture and economic growth at Cranes Roost Park.
