Alpha Community Services YMCA Walk to End Homelessness,

  • About the event

On some of the coldest nights this winter, when temperatures dropped and winds swept through Bridgeport, dozens of our neighbors had nowhere safe to go. Because of the Alpha Community Services YMCA Cold Weather Emergency Shelter, they did not have to face those nights alone.

From November through March, our community came together to protect those most vulnerable to the elements. This past winter was one of the most challenging in memory, with 47 extreme-weather activations, including a 37-day consecutive stretch of dangerous conditions.

During more than 3,000 hours of round-the-clock operation, the Alpha Community Services YMCA provided 9,375 overnight stays and 18,750 meals, while helping hundreds of individuals find shelter, safety, and pathways toward longer-term housing.

These numbers represent more than services delivered; they represent lives protected, nourished, and supported. This life-saving work is only possible because our community chooses to stand together.

We invite you to continue that tradition of compassion and leadership by sponsoring the 2026 Alpha Community Services YMCA Walk to End Homelessness.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, we will proudly host the 25th Annual Walk to End Homelessness, bringing together neighbors, businesses, advocates, and families for an inspiring morning of solidarity and purpose. For twenty-five years, this event has reminded us that homelessness is not someone else’s problem—it is a challenge our community can confront together.

Each step taken during the Walk represents hope, dignity, and the belief that every person deserves the stability of a safe place to call home.

    Why should you sponsor?

Your sponsorship helps create pathways to housing, inspire community action, and demonstrate the leadership of businesses committed to strengthening Bridgeport.

Together, we can take meaningful steps toward ending homelessness and ensuring every neighbor has a safe place to call home.
